There has been an increased interest in human awareness of personal beauty and body care over the last several years. More and more people demand services to enhance and maintain their beauty. This trend has created a market for trained professionals, knowledgeable in the field of esthetics. This program has been designed specifically to meet the needs of the public and the growing standards of education for estheticians in North America.

Students gain knowledge of human sciences: anatomy, physiology; as well as learning facial treatments using equipment to renew the skin, hair removal techniques, professional manicures and pedicures, as well as business development. Upon completion of the program, graduates can practice as an esthetician in a variety of settings including beauty institutes, hair salons, resorts and cosmetic firms, health clubs, or cruise ships.

Many estheticians choose to open their own salons. Upon completion of this program, students will be presented with an Esthetician Diploma.

This program is 36 weeks in length.

  • R311 Acupressure/Chinese Massage/Tuina 50

    • This is a study of the Chinese method of therapeutic massage, which deals with Yin, Yang, Qi, Blood and the internal organs. This course covers tuina basic principles, manipulation techniques, functions, indications, and contraindications. The five elements and meridian theories of eastern philosophy are discussed. Students will learn acupressure points as well as a full body Chinese massage. This course takes the approach of healing the body as a whole, not in segments.
  • ET1200 Advanced Facial Therapy 100

    • The main emphasis in this module is the introduction and incorporation of electrical machines in facial treatments. Electrotherapy will include high frequency treatments, galvanic treatments, brush machine, lymphatic and faradic treatments. In addition, advanced topics in esthetics including microdermabrasion, cold laser, anti-aging light therapy, and skin rejuvenation will be incorporated. Salon business, sales and marketing are also integrated in this module.
  • ST1300 Aromatherapy 25

    • Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oil to maintain and promote physical, psychological, and spiritual well being. In this course, you will learn what is aromatherapy and essential oils. Be introduced to various essential oils. Explain what constituents and properties are. Explain how essential oils can be used and the different methods of application. Explain the sources of essential oils. What a note is. Know about safety, the uses, and contraindications in order to be able to use it in a spa setting.
  • ST2300 Documentation and Consultation 25

    • In this module, students will learn how to gather information pertinent to the spa session. Effective listening skills will be taught, as well as body language and postural cues. Students will learn how to document their findings appropriately and how to utilize common medical abbreviations. Upon completion of this module, students will be able to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and maintain accurate patient histories and files.
  • ET1000 Essentials of Esthetics 50

    • This is the introductory module for the Esthetics program and is a pre-requisite for other esthetics courses. The main objective of this course is to ensure a good understanding of anatomy and physiology related to facial treatments. As well as the ability to apply this knowledge in the practical skills of basic skin analysis, cleansing, toning, mask application, mini-facial treatments, and eyebrow shaping. Hygiene, sanitation, professional conduct, and draping techniques are included in this course.
  • ET1100 Facial Therapy Fundamentals 100

    • In this module students will learn the history of skin care and cosmetics. Client consultation and detailed skin analysis, accompanied by a sound underpinning of dermatology, is an integral part of this course. Deep cleansing techniques, facial massage, and mask therapy will be discussed in relation to age and ethnic variations. Back facial and scalp massage is also included.
  • W110a Introductory Anatomy 50

    • This course introduces the structure and arrangement of gross surface features with special attention to the musculoskeletal, respiratory cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nervous and genitourinary systems. Building on the anatomical knowledge acquired in W110, students will study functions and regulation of organ systems in this course. Specific attention will be placed on the respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. The physiology of exercise and energy metabolism will also be discussed.
  • L1040 Job Search/Business Management 25

    • Students will have the use of our Job Search lab which has unlimited Internet access, a job search resource library and a fax machine and phone for contacting prospective employers. Facilitators will also be made available to advise on job finding resources, interview skills and techniques, and to carry out mock interviews. In addition, students will learn and explore the requirements for running their own business as well as managing spa and esthetics salons.
  • ET1600 Makeup Fundamentals 25

    • Through studying this course, students will gain an understanding of the basic theory behind various makeup applications and colour selections for day, evening, bridal, fashion and mature looks. The course will include an industry evaluation project where students are able to explore current industry trends in makeup.
  • ET1400 Nail Care 75

    • The main objective of this module is to ensure a good understanding and application of theory related to nail care. Students will gain competence in performing manicure, pedicure, paraffin, and oil treatments. They will perform these services observing relevant sanitation and disinfection rules. Client consultation, spa treatments for hands and feet, and nail art will add an extra dimension to this course.
  • ET1500 Product Knowledge 25

    • The product knowledge related to facial therapy, nail care and any other aspect of esthetics and spa therapy is of a paramount importance to a qualified professional. In this module, an integration of basic product knowledge from other modules will take place. Students will study the major active ingredients found in different cosmetic formulations, including natural organic products. Product features and benefits will enable students to perfect their retailing skills.
  • ST2200 Swedish Massage 100

    • This module teaches the students basic Swedish massage strokes and sequence and postural mechanics for the massage practitioner. Draping clients, bolstering clients, and adapting for pathological conditions that may be present will also be addressed. Students will learn a full body sequence and be able to allot time for thirty-minute treatments, hour long sessions, and hour and a half long sessions. Chair massage sequence will also be introduced along with chair massage marketing and promotion.
  • ET1300 Waxing Techniques 75

    • In this module hair removal techniques will be discussed, including temporary and permanent methods. Waxing techniques for various facial and body parts will be the main focus of this course. Client consultation, indications, and contraindications to the treatment as well as hygiene, sanitation, and professional etiquette will be taught.
