On your first visit to our student clinic please arrive 10 minutes before the start of your appointment time. You will be required to complete a clinic intake form.
For subsequent visits, we ask that you arrive a minimum of 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Arriving more than 15 minutes late for your appointment may result in you having to reschedule your appointment. We encourage you to make every effort to arrive on time.
We understand that situations may arise that result in you being unable to attend your appointment. If this is the case, please notify our reception staff of the cancellation as soon as possible and they will assist you in rescheduling. Please note that a minimum of 24 hours is required for cancellation of an appointment.
Prior to treatment you will receive a thorough consultation in order to obtain a diagnosis. Your consultation will involve methods such as tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis and symptom/syndrome differentiation. Consultations will be completed in the presence of 2-10 interns and an internship instructor.
Depending on the level of the internship class assigned to you, your treatment may be performed by instructor while the interns observe, by a group of 2-5 interns while the instructor supervises, or by an intern (or group of interns) who is proximally supervised by an instructor.
Your privacy and comfort in the student clinic is of the utmost importance and we will work with you to make you feel as comfortable as possible. After discussing the treatment plan and obtaining your consent to treatment, an intern will give you the appropriate instructions on how to prepare for treatment. Depending on the treatment plan, you may be asked to disrobe to a level that you are comfortable with and possibly change into a treatment gown. During the treatment, except for the area of the body required for treatment, you will always be fully draped. All interns and instructors will leave the room while you get ready for treatment.
Depending on the level of the internship class assigned to you, the interns will either be fully or proximally supervised by an internship instructor. In all cases, an internship instructor will be present in the clinic at all times and all treatment plans are discussed and approved by an internship instructor prior to treatment.
The interns are supervised by internship instructors. All of our internship instructors are fully licensed by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA) and have a vast array of clinical experience in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Treatments (including consultation) will take approximately 1 - 2.5 hours depending on the level of the internship class assigned to you. Acupuncture needles are generally retained for approximately 15-30 minutes depending on the condition being treated.
If you have constraints on the time you have available for your appointment, please let our reception staff known upon scheduling.
